¾ inch = 1 foot scale models of the UIL OAP Unit Set; the TAPPS One Act Play Set; the Los Angeles Play Festival Set and Palco Modular Stage and Black Box Sets. The scale model pieces are sold in sets and as individual pieces.
The Palco Scale Model set has become the basic tool for designing One Act Play set, but it has many other uses. It can be used to design the basics of other productions during the year. It can also be a classroom tool in training actors and directors who need to understand the concepts of traffic patterns and areas of maximum strength. Looking at the set from an overall perspective in the model, gives the actor a better view of his movements in relation to others, and can give an audience viewpoint of everyone and everything on stage at any given point. By using the model the director/designer can easily experiment with entrance and exit points to produce the greatest dramatic impact and determine the most useful traffic patterns and acting areas for any production. The model can be used to explore and demonstrate eye movement patterns that can be controlled by design as well as the use of level for emphasis.
When teaching an overview or into theatre course, there is limited time for stage design. Using scale models in groups provides a hands-on activity to encourage design creativity within a limited schedule. What a great project to leave for a substitute or assistant teacher! Groups can select a project outline out of a hat, and start to design, on their own.

These pieces can be painted and acrylic paint can be easily removed to paint for another design. You can also tape on a graphic or use as a base to hold another scenic element. They are the basic pieces, found in most theatre stock stage set pieces.
Material Used
Modular scale model pieces are constructed for simplicity, versatility and durability.
- Made of heavy weight PVC these pieces are virtually indestructible. Unlike wood scale models that get out of square when dropped on their edges, these hold their shape forever.
- Unlike foam or paper, they don’t blow away when someone sneezes or opens a door.
- The hinges actually work the way dual acting hinges work, in that they bend both ways, and the flat will stand up and stay where you put it, unlike the taped together mini sets.
- The hinges are pretty durable, but can be easily replaced if they do break.

Length, Width, and Height are listed in feet and inches of the full sized set pieces: that is a scale model piece which actually measures 3/4″ X 1 1/2″ would be called 1′ X 2′
